Baker Street NW1

The builder William Baker first laid out this world-famous street in 1755, hence the name. Throughout its history it has had numerous famous residents, for example the politician William Pitt the Younger and the actress Sarah Siddons.

But the street would probably never have been quite so well-known if it weren't for its most famous resident of all - Sherlock Holmes.

Arthur Conan Doyle's fictional detective resided at 221b Baker Street. The address is now home to the Abbey National Building Society, but just a few doors away is the Sherlock Holmes Museum which, so as not to upset fans, also claims the number 221b.

The fully furnished apartments benefit from a fully equipped kitchen including microwave & washer/dryer, separate bathroom and a lounge/dining area that includes cable television, a video recorder, direct dial telephone/answer phone, CD/hi-fi unit and video entry phone system.

For those who don't know, 221b Baker Street was the address of the world's most famous detective - Sherlock Holmes. The real 221b Baker Street is now home to the Abbey National Building Society, but this museum more than makes up for any disappointment - and to make you feel better it claims the number as its own.

The 'museum' is dedicated to everything about Arthur Conan Doyle's famous fictional character and there is atmosphere galore. There are three floors, which are all filled from top to toe with all sorts of Victorian memorabilia and various 'artefacts' from Holmes' adventures including the stick that belonged to Dr Mortimer in the Hound of the Baskervilles and the club that killed Colonel Barclay in The Crooked Man.
