Building: In the heart of the East Village, this New York penthouse apartment is on the sixth floor of a new elevator condominium building. The building is clean and graciously designed, with elevator and video intercom. There is a coin laundry in the basement and large roof deck (1000 square foot common roof, plus separate 300 foot private roof for you).
Interior: Very spacious, bright and quiet, this penthouse apartment has hardwood floors, a giant living room, and a view of the Chrysler building to the north. It can sleep two in the bedroom, and one person in the 2nd bedroom; the second bedroom does not have a door, but a curtain instead; also the second bedroom has an inflatable mattress and not a regular one. The living room has a sofa and two chairs which are a little old. Decorated with Haitian paintings and featuring a small old piano, the apartment has an artistic atmosphere which fits the neighbourhood's bohemian history. New stainless steel refrigerator and stove for cooking. Large colour television on rollers to watch DVD or VHS movies in any room you like. And on the spacious roof is a 1000-square foot common roof along with a private 300 square foot deck that is yours alone. The bathroom has a bathtub with shower. Towels and sheets are all provided. Wireless internet access is available. Also, there are 3 bicycles available for the guest in the event you want to ride around the city instead of using public transportation.
Neighbourhood: On the gorgeous block in between Tompkins Square Park and the hip German restaurant Zum Schneider, the apartment is your quiet retreat in the middle of the East Village, New York’s
hippest and bohemian neighbourhood. Literally over three hundred restaurants and nightspots, ranging from upscale French bistros to cheap rock’n’roll bars, are within minutes walk in each direction. This is truly the heart of New York, a place where young couples stroll their babies down the tree-lined street alongside artists and musicians on their way to the latest hotspot. It has the charm of any New York neighbourhood, but with an international flavour, as there are many Europeans who have also made it their home (including several Germans and French in the building). For exercise and relaxation, Tompkins Square Park is down the block; the East River two blocks away.
Transportation: Public transportation is everywhere. Bus stops down the block, subways (the L and F) are seven minutes walk, and taxis may be hailed any time of day or night. If you like to ride a bicycle, every inch of lower Manhattan is within reach in 12 minutes or less.
