Apartments and Villas in Sicily Italy
Introduction to
Siracusa
It's hardly surprising that SIRACUSA (ancient Syracuse) – an easily defendable offshore island with fertile plains across on the mainland and two natural harbours – should attract the early Greek colonists, in this case Corinthians who settled the site in 733 BC. Within a hundred years, the city was so powerful that it was sending out its own colonists to the south and west; and later Siracusa was the island's main power base – indeed, the city's history reads as a list of Sicily's most famous and effective rulers.
